Bangkok Art and Culture Center

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center was opened early in 2009 after many delays, arguments, and a last minute name change. The idea started as the Bangkok Modern Art Musuem, but was changed to the Art and Culture Center just before it opened.

Even after it opened, it seemed nobody was quite sure what to do with the place, and it stood somewhat empty and deserted for several months. It is slowly but surely coming to life, with a somewhat odd mix of private shops and galleries complementing the show galleries. However, by October of 2009 it still seemed under-utilized.

However, I won't write the place off just yet. It's in too strategic a place to go un-noticed by the crowds of Thais and foreigners who flock to the Siam Square area. The center is located on the intersection facing MBK Center and the Siam Discovery shopping mall, in the very heart of Bangkok's main shopping and entertainment area.

Admission to the center is free, although some exhibitions may require a fee in the future.

There are several private art galleries, designer boutiques, music studios and related shops on the first three floors. The main galleries are on the upper floors.

 

Getting to the Bangkok Art and Culture Center

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center is easy to reach using the Skytrain elevated train system. Alight at the National Stadium and follow the crowds to the exits towards MBK Center. The bridge entrance to the Art and Culture Center is opposite to the bridge entrance to MBK.
