Wat Khao Phnom Phloeng

Wat Khao Phnom Phloeng
Wat Khao Phnom Phloeng

According to Dawn Rooney, the name of this temple translates as "temple of the Fire-Sacrifice Mountain". I'm not sure about the "sacrifice" part, but the rest of it is accurate, altough I can't find any explanation about why the hill is called "fire mountain".

The temple is sited on top of the second-highest peak of the ridge that runs through the inner city of Si Satchanalai. What remains are a small bell-shaped stupa and the platform, columns and Buddha image of the prayer hall. The setting is rather dramatic, which is probably why this Buddha image is a particularly favorite merit-making place for modern-day Thais.

A stairway leads up the side of the hill behind Wat Chang Lom, or you can follow the path that leads along the ridge of the hills from Wat Khao Suwankhiri, and down to the northeastern wall.
