Among the small collection of resorts at Railay, the Sunrise Tropical probably represents one of the best value for money places. The resort consists of a collection of small villas on East Railay Beach. My 'plus' villa had a queen size bed, sitting area, dressing area, large bathroom and outdoor shower. There was also a small porch out front with a couple of chairs. My particular villa near the pool wasn't very private without closing the blackout drapes, but most of the other rooms appeared more private.

Sunrise's location on East Railay means that the beach in front of the resort is not very good for sunning or sports, but a path to West Railay is right next to the hotel, so you're closer to a good beach that you would be at many large beachfront hotels.

Hotel facilities include a restaurant, spa, tour office with internet access, and mini-mart.

Rooms feature air conditioning, refrigerator, color television with limited English language channels, outdoor shower and in-room safe.

Pluses: Large private villas at a reasonable price. Central location.

Minuses: Beach at resort is rocky. Some rooms lack privacy.
