Although it is rather removed from the main old town area of Phuket Town, the provincial hall is still worth a look for those interested in the architecture of the area. The building actually has the distinction of being the first reinforced concrete building in Thailand, but you wouldn't know it to look at it. The elaborate grill-work that decorates the facade of the building looks wooden, but it's actually plaster.

Originally, the building had 99 doors - and no windows. The original louvered wooden doors allowed air to flow through the offices. Sadly, the doors have been replaced by glass and windows have been added, along with air conditioning.

The open gallery around the building is lined with old photographs of Phuket. You can visit the building on any regular weekday when the offices are open for business.
