My rating:
If you are walking or riding around Chiang Rai city, chances are you will see the golden clock tower near the center of town, not far really from the night bazaar. Although new, the clock and its workings are definitely an attraction in their own right.

The tower was designed by the same artist responsible for the 'White Temple' (Wat Rong Khun) south of town. You can see something of the same style in the ornately carved tower highlighted with mirrored tiles that catch the sunlight in the day and the lights of cars at night. If you really want to see the clock in all its glory, then catch one its nightly shows, when it strikes the hour at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 pm. The tower is bathed in a whole spectrum of different colored lights, and there is a clockwork mechanism in the center of the tower which moves and changes.
