Pattaya Floating Market

The Pattaya Floating Market is the latest addition to the long list of tourist attractions around Pattaya. Opened in late 2008, the market will take some time to mature, but it seems to be off to a good start. The market consists of a set of meandering wooden buildings built on stilts over a large lake. The buildings are designed to represent the traditional styles of the different regions of Thailand.

The buildings really aren't floating, but this is definitely a market. All the buildings house shops or food outlets. The shops sell a wide variety of Thai crafts. Some of it is good quality, although it's all stuff you can find elsewhere in Thailand.

The Pattaya Floating Market is an interesting place to kill some time. It's very Thai-oriented but still foreigner friendly. If you want to visit, the best plan would be to get there late morning, take a look around, and have lunch at one of the many food places.

The Market is open all day every day. There is currently no admission charge, but that is expected to change. The Market is located on the main Sukhumvit Highway well south of Pattaya, in the Jomtien area.
