January 2010
The Bhandari was a pleasant surprise. For the low high season rate I got, I wasn't expecting much, and was also unsure of what to expect of the location. Several people had told me that there was nothing in Khao Lak. So, I was quite surprised to find such a nice resort, only a short walk from several good restaurants, shops and other services.
The Bhandari's 77 rooms are mostly housed in small one and two-room Thai-styled bungalows set in well manicured gardens. My deluxe bungalow room was very large, with a king-size bed, sitting area, and large bathroom with an outdoor tub and shower. The resort has a large pool with kid's area, as well as a large spa. Breakfast was served in an open-air area near the pool and lobby. There is also a pool-side coffee shop as well as an Italian restaurant.
As mentioned, the resort is a short walk away from several restaurants, as well as a well-stocked small supermarket and several other shops. Although the Bhandari is not right on the beach, the ocean is just across the small access road leading to the resort. You can get from any room to the beach in under five minutes.
Hotel Facilities include several restaurants, swimming pool and full service spa.
Rooms feature air conditioning, mini-bar, color television with most major international channels. wireless Internet (additional charge) and hair dryer.
Pluses: Medium-sized resort with generous-sized rooms. Within walking distance of several restaurants.
Minuses: It's a minor point, but a light near the door (that worked when you weren't in the room) would have been nice for unlocking the door at night.
Rooms at the Khaolak Bhandari Resort can be booked through Agoda, or you can use Hotels Combined to compare rates for the resort from dozens of booking sites to find the best deal.
